Just a few weeks after Apple rolled out the fourth-generation Apple TV, it has seeded the tvOS 9.1 beta to developers, which is the first major software update for the device. According to the release notes, it's an update that'll bring in Wi-Fi and scrolling improvements, in-app purchases and Siri support for Apple Music.

On top of that, Apple has also rolled out a minor over-the-air update for the tvOS 9.0.1 running on the Apple TV, which is focused more on bug fixes and performance improvements. To manually install it, simply go through Settings > System > Software Updates, and the update should be downloadable there. Remember, though, that it isn't labeled on the Apple TV interface and is only referred to as a software update. The update can be confirmed in the About menu via the Settings with the build number 13T402, which is consistent with the name listed on Apple's developer center.

To receive tvOS 9.1 beta, download the update on a computer first and then install it on the Apple TV using a USB device. The tvOS 9.1 beta is available for download on Apple's developer center, including the tvOS 9.0.1. Take note that Apple warns users that "devices updated to tvOS 9.1 cannot be restored to earlier versions of tvOS."

Jeff Benjamin of iDownloadBlog has discovered that Siri can now execute various music commands on the new beta. The virtual assistant can be used to search for songs, artists, playlists or albums on Apple Music, play Beats 1 radio and even search for titles that aren't in the library. Plus, Siri can now play music immediately without the need to open Apple Music when the user says the voice command "play" instead of "search."

Check out the video demonstration that Benjamin uploaded on YouTube to see the tvOS 9.1 beta working.
