"The Huntsman" newcomers Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain are sporting death stares in the newest character posters for the upcoming sequel-turned-prequel, "The Huntsman: Winter's War."

Universal recently released character posters for the movie, which also features returning cast Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron.

Blunt plays the vengeful Ice Queen, Freya, while Chastain plays a warrior.

For all the twi-hards who were hoping to see their favorite human-turned-vampire in the upcoming prequel, bad news awaits. Kristen Stewart, who took on the role of Snow White in the first "Huntsman" film, will not appear in the prequel. Rupert Sanders will also not be returning to direct the film, and will be replaced by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. The team will be led by producer Joe Roth ("Alice in Wonderland," "Maleficent").

In the aftermath of the scandal involving Stewart and Sanders, Universal decided to shelve the sequel and instead focus on a spin-off that draws into the story of the Huntsman. A few days later, Universal announced that they were not shelving the sequel.

In 2014, it was determined that Universal would not release a sequel, but a prequel instead. A year later, Hemsworth and Theron were announced to return for the prequel, to be joined by Blunt and Chastain. Filming began in April and was set in England.

The prequel is set to be released on April 22, 2016, facing off with Warner Bros.' comedy film, "Keanu," written by Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key.

"Snow White and the Huntsman," with its $170 million budget, racked up almost $400 million at the box office, so Universal pretty much has high hopes for its prequel.

Written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and Craig Mazin, the movie highlights the characters of Freya and Ravenna, who resemble the sisterhood featured in Disney's "Frozen," only with an evil twist.
