For television viewers who like maidens in distress (well, not really), swashbuckling adventures and singing pirates, the wait for the second season of ABC's Galavant is almost over.

The series returns early next year to bring more of its brilliant silliness to TV screens, including the much-hyped performance by Timothy Omundson's as the show's King Richard.

ABC recently released its first trailer promoting the new season of Galavant and it has all the goofiness fans expect from the series, all set to Taylor Swift's hit song, "Shake It Off."

Galavant debuted last year on ABC and the network eventually renewed it for a second season. Here's a little peek of what the new season of musical-based show will offer:

Last season saw the dashing hero Galavant (Joshua Sasse) race to save his Madalena (Mallory Jansen), who he later learned had a dark side. In this season, Galavant and King Richard have become unlikely friends who set out together to help Galavant recover his true love, Isabella (Karen David).

Of course, none of this is important without singing, and the series promises even more extravagant musical numbers this time around, all written by accomplished composer Alan Menken.

Galavant turned into a surprise hit last year, thanks to its Princess Bride style of humor and over-the-top funny musical numbers. From the video, it also seems likely there will be singing on the high seas (don't miss the quick peek at Hugh Bonneville's return to the series).

"I tend to look at the show as a demented version of a fairy tale," said Jansen to Backstage. "It's not your typical fairy tale; it's not what it looks like. It's very funny, very tongue-in-cheek, quite risqué."

It's likely the series will also bring in even more guest stars for its second season, too: last year saw appearances by John Stamos, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Ricky Gervais.

"I'm kind of seeing how far I can stretch the boundaries of network television," said Galavant screenwriter Dan Fogelman to New Jersey.com. "There are so many creative and pure ways to put shows on cable and the Internet and on network television."

Viewers who haven't yet caught on to Galavant, should read these five reasons to watch the series now.

Galavant season 2 premieres on ABC on January 3rd with two episodes back-to-back showing every Sunday for a total of five weeks.
