In October 2015, Apple TV and Chromecast item listings from Amazon's Web page completely disappeared, and this caused some confusion among customers.

The e-commerce company justified its action by saying that the gadgets do not feature its Prime Video streaming service, and that might confuse Amazon fans.

That same month, Apple took a lot of flak over the apparent decision to reject Prime Video's application on Apple TV. However, the Cupertino-based company later explained that "all are welcome" on the streaming platform. The absence of Prime Video actually had a much simpler and logical explanation - Amazon did not send a dedicated app for the tvOS platform at the time of the Apple TV's launch.

On Apple TV, all the streaming that a standard user would want can be found, such as Hulu, HBO Go, Showtime, YouTube and obviously, Netflix.

At the time of Apple TV's release, Amazon refused to comment on its absence from the cohort of popular streaming names.

Engineer Dan Bostonweeks asked Amazon about the issue, and got wind of the fact that the retailer is developing a tvOS app for Prime Video, which may be launched before 2015 ends.

"Hopefully, within a few weeks' span, you will be able to see the Amazon Instant Video app feature on your Apple TV," the company's representative replied.

The tvOS app that Amazon is working on would allow Apple TV owners to access Amazon Video, which currently permits Prime members to stream a lot (read: tens of thousands) of TV episodes and movies.

Thousands of cinema-hours can be enjoyed by Amazon Prime members at the moment, and extending it to tvOS would be the next logical step in the evolution of Amazon's streaming.

Amazon Prime members can download the Amazon Video for iOS free of charge on the App Store. The streaming service works on a myriad of ecosystems, such as Fire OS, Amazon Fire TV, Android, PlayStation 3 and 4, Roku, Xbox 360 and One, Nintendo Wii and U.

A couple of Blu-ray players and TVs also support the streaming service, for example those manufactured by Vizio, Panasonic, LG, Sony and Samsung.
