Well, they are neighbors ... and the holiday spirit is in the air.

In a new ad — shot November 16, but just released Tuesday — Microsoft sends several employees from its newly-opened flagship store in New York City just a few blocks down Fifth Avenue to serenade Apple's iconic flagship store with holiday carols.

Joined by a local New York City children's youth choir, Microsoft Store employees are seen in the ad, leaving the store and walking to Apple's glass-front store, generating a crowd of people around them as they sang outside ther competitor's retail establishment.

"To celebrate the holidays, Microsoft employees, who were selected from across the country, gathered together, meeting each other for the first time, at the new Microsoft 5th Ave Store to spread some holiday wishes," the ad's video description on YouTube reads. "They share a message of peace and harmony with their neighbor down the street."

While the ad could be deemed as a bit tongue-in-cheek, there might be some authentic good will behind the effort in wanting to "deliver a special message to some old friends," as the commercial states. It's no coincidence that the choir is singing "let there be peace on Earth," either.

As CNet pointed out, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella understands that Microsoft's software is used on Apple's devices, so maybe this is the company's way of extending the olive branch of sorts to its fellow tech giant and spreading harmony.
