Google's Nexus 6P is also Huawei's Nexus 6P, so there are two official places to buy the device unlocked with no strings attached.
Since Google doesn't manufacture their own smartphone hardware just yet (we really wish they would), the company has to partner with other vendors to produce their phones.
The first Nexus, the Nexus One, was made by HTC. The two next Nexus devices, the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, were manufactured by Samsung. Finally, the last two Nexus devices, the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, were then produced by another Korean company, LG.
How and why Google decides to partner with a specific vendor is unknown but they must've seen something special in Huawei. The Chinese company already has a strong stable of products. From the well-crafted Huawei Watch encased in stainless steel and topped with a sapphire crystal screen to the Huawei Mate S which features an all-aluminum design with one of the first pressure sensitive screens on an Android device - Huawei is on the right track.
As a result, since Huawei has a direct hand in making the Nexus 6P, the smartphone can actually be purchased cheaper through Huawei's website instead of on Google's Play Store.
Currently, the retail price of the Nexus 6P is $499 for the 32 GB version, $549 for double the storage at 64 GB, and finally, $649 for the more spacious 128 GB model. However, buying direct from Huawei allows customers to get around surcharges from taxes and even get free shipping. Basically, customers pay the exact amount as advertised for Google's latest flagship device.
Unfortunately, residents of California, Washington, Georgia, Texas, and New Jersey reportedly still have to pay taxes when they order the Nexus 6P from Huawei. As such, customers from those states and other locations should be especially attentive of the final price of their orders before checking out on Huawei's website.
Moreover, there are only two colors available for the device from Huawei - Aluminum and Graphite. But for those who have been waiting for the perfect time to get a Nexus 6P, this is that moment. Buying now should also allow their brand new Nexus 6P to be shipped just in time before Christmas around mid-December.
