A woman from Manchester was horrified when she saw a decomposing frog in her Nando's chicken salad. The worst part? She already ate most of the pre-packed meal when the unwelcoming ingredient surfaced.

Louise Rudd, 41, said she was then eating a chicken quinoa salad at a Nando's branch in East Didsbury, Manchester when she saw the rotten amphibian - black in color and covered in quinoa and salad leaves.

"I knew it was a frog because it was whole and it was all spread out - it was obvious," she said. She then proceeded to the bathroom immediately to throw up.

She was with her 12-year-old son and husband when the incident happened. Her son seemed unfazed but her husband also felt sick after seeing the frog.

Investigation results

The questionable salad was sent to the laboratory for investigation and the results confirmed that it was indeed a common European frog in an advanced stage of decay.

The frog most probably ended up in Nando's salad because it was included in one of the harvested ingredients. Salads to Go, the provider of pre-packed meals for Nando's and other supermarkets, failed to see the frog during its quality checks.

Compensation

Because of the disturbing experience that Rudd had, Nando offered her a free meal and vouchers. She said, however, that she has neither returned to the restaurant nor touched the pre-packed salad yet.

Aran, Rudd's son, went back to Nando's with his friends. The restaurant shouldered his and all of his nine friends' cinema tickets and even accommodated the bunch for a free meal after the movie.

Rudd was also offered to visit the factory of Salads to Go in Skelmersdale, where she asked the staff about the measures they had performed to prevent her horrendous experience from happening again.

Nando's statement

A Nando spokesperson said further investigations were started after the preliminary tests.

"We make every effort to ensure that our food is served to the highest standard," he said. He added that they continue to work with all their suppliers to guarantee that they are provided high quality services that match their standards.

As for Rudd, pre-packed salads are definitely a no-no. "I'm never going to eat a pre-packaged salad again, ever in my life," she said.
