Microsoft has released the first firmware update for the Windows 10 Mobile powered Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL, which will fix some known issues with the smartphones.

Microsoft unveiled its first Windows 10 Mobile phones: the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL at an event in October 2015 and the handsets made way to the market in November. Both the mobile phones have impressive features and have attracted many Windows phone lovers. However, both the devices also have a number of issues that many customers have reported.

The smartphone-maker has issued the first update for both the handsets, which brings the software version to 01078.00027.15506.020xx.

The latest software update for the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL brings a number of enhancements and bug fixes. According to the change log, the software brings overall performance and stability improvements to the Lumia handsets.

Following the software update Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL owners will also get improved SD memory card support. Owners of these devices will also experience improvements in the automatic brightness settings.

Camera Issues Fixed with the Latest Software Update

The Lumia 950 as well as the 950 XL is equipped with a 20 MP rear-facing camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera.

"With powerful camera features like Rich Capture, a triple LED natural flash, and a 20 MP sensor that has been engineered to virtually eliminate motion blur, you'll have the confidence to capture anything," said Microsoft about the camera of the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL.

The camera of the Lumia devices has been praised by owners. However, some users complained that the camera did not take high quality images in low-light conditions. The latest software update fixes the camera problem and customers can also take top quality images even on low-light conditions.

The cameras on the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL can take 4K videos.

"With higher resolution and better fast-action capture, 4K video lets you preserve precious memories in stunning quality. And with advanced Optical Image Stabilization [OIS] and virtually seamless auto focus, the Lumia 950 Dual SIM is always ready to take super-sharp and silky-smooth videos," said Microsoft.

However, customers noted that 4K recorded videos had some stripes while playing back. The latest software update brings an end to this problem.

Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL Wi-Fi Connectivity Problem

According to a previous TechTimes report some customers have also commented about Wi-Fi connectivity problem with the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL. The change log does not specify if the issue will be fixed following the software update but customers will hope that Microsoft has also addressed the problem with the latest software update.

How to Check for a Software Update on Your Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL?

Microsoft is rolling out the software update in phases and it may take some time before it is released to all handsets in all regions. Microsoft also said that "availability of the update may depend on your network service provider." Owners of the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL should get a notification when they receive a software update. Customers can also check Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates, to see if they have received the latest software.
