The David Bowie-starrer "Labyrinth" was reported to be getting a reboot but Nicole Perlman, the screenwriter in charge of the cult favorite's next iteration clarified that this will not be the case.

Perlman took to Twitter to put rumors to rest, saying that she will not be rebooting anything.

According to her, she has been in talks with The Jim Henson Company since 2014.

"I would never seek to profit from Bowie's death," she said, frustrated at the rumors' timing.

"Labyrinth" tells the story of a teen named Sarah, played by Jennifer Connelly, who wished that her baby brother Toby would just disappear. However, she has a change of heart when he does go missing after being kidnapped by the Goblin King, played by Bowie. Sarah must sneak into his castle to save her brother but first, she must find her way through the labyrinth surrounding the goblin stronghold.

Written by Terry Jones of "Monty Python" fame, executive produced by George Lucas and was directed by Jim Henson, the movie unfortunately didn't do so well in the box office in 1986, prompting Henson to stop directing. In the years that followed, however, "Labyrinth" gained a strong cult following, a fan base very much active until today.

Perlman said the movie is a favorite from her childhood so she shares the concerns fans have about how "Labyrinth" would be continued, acknowledging the need for the task to be "handled with love and respect."

But while she clarified that the next "Labyrinth" will not be a reboot, she did not reveal anything else about the project, which will be overseen by Nicole Brown for TriStar, with Lisa Henson producing for The Jim Henson Company.

The screenwriter had her start in a Marvel Studios writers program but she is best known for her work in "Guardians of the Galaxy." Aside from working on "Labyrinth, she will also be co-writing "Captain Marve" with Meg LeFauve of "Inside Out."
