Sorry, Mac and Linux users. The highly acclaimed Batman: Arkham Knight will no longer come to these two platforms.

The announcement was made through a post to the Steam Community Forums, as the port of the title by Feral Interactive that was coming to Mac OS X, SteamOS and Ubuntu has been cancelled.

"We are very sorry to confirm that Batman: Arkham Knight will no longer be coming to Mac and Linux," said the post, adding that for gamers who have preordered the title for the two platforms, they could apply for a refund through Steam.

Feral Interactive, which made the initial announcement of porting the game to Mac and Linux almost a year ago, was able to successfully port Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City to Mac. The publisher, however, said in October of last year that it would be delaying the Mac and Linux versions of Batman: Arkham Knight to the spring of 2016.

Mac and Linux gamers should hold on to hope that developer Rocksteady will be releasing more Batman games in the future, which could be ported to the platforms.

Even though Rocksteady said that Batman: Arkham Knight is the conclusion of the trilogy of games that it developed, many are still assuming that it will be creating more games set in the DC Universe in the future.

In an interview with Rocksteady creative director Sefton Hill, when asked whether the latest DLC is the last time that the developer tackles Batman, the video cuts to a "no signal" screen before picking back up a few seconds after.

However, for those who looked closely, an image of Batman villain Scarecrow can be seen just before the "no signal" screen.

Whether the Scarecrow's appearance in the video teases another DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight or an entirely new game being developed by Rocksteady is up for debate, there is no way to know for sure until Warner Bros. decided to make an official announcement.
