Ghostbusters is a comedy classic. It was fresh, funny and heartfelt in a way that many movies aren't. Now you can learn how it was created in the upcoming Cleanin' Up The Town: Remembering Ghostbusters documentary.

The full length documentary will examine how both Ghostbusters 1 and 2 came to by through interviews with more than 70 members of the original cast and crew, including director Ivan Reitman and stars like Dan Akyroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaverand many, many more.

For example, have you ever wondered how Slimer came to be? The green ghost became one of the most iconic images from the films, but making the ghoul wasn't easy. The documentary will explore the creation of Slimer and other creatures from the films, as well as how the film's now famous logo came to be, the idea behind the proton packs and much more.

The documentary has been in the works for eight years, but now brother and sister director team Anthony and Claire Bueno have turned to Kickstarter for the final push to complete and polish the documentary for release later this year. Here's their Kickstarter pitch:

"We feel, to enable us to complete the feature length documentaries about both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II; do justice to the people who have graciously given their time, shared their skills and stories and to deliver to the fans the kind of original, detailed documentary that they not only have longed for but honours the loyalty they deserve; we really do need to take one more trip to the US to complete filming and enlist additional team members "with the tools and the talent" that we simply don't have to make this a truly polished documentary that audiences will love."

Donating $36 snags you a digital copy of the documentary once it's released, while a $73 donation gets you a Blu-ray copy, digital copy and a "making of" booklet.

With the Ghostbusters reboot on the horizon, a look back at the original two films and what makes them so special is a welcome treat. You can check out the documentary's new trailer below, but be warned, it will bring back memories.
