While March will be a welcome day on Netflix if you're a fan of Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, the Nickelodeon cult hit Good Burger or the lesser spawn of the American Pie franchise, it might be a sad one for TED Talk fans — as this upcoming month, the streaming service is scheduled to remove the series from the site.

The series of inspiring, thought-provoking and educational snippets will be taken out of Netflix's queue come March 1. The decision to nix TED Talks from the service comes as an abrupt 180 to users: since the series was added years ago, the only changes it has undergone have been the addition of more recent episodes.

So, why is TED Talks leaving? As the Whats on Netflix blog notes, it could be a number of things. Like Doctor Who, the case might be a failure to renew contracts to keep the show on the site, to a scenario of neither party reaching the viewership goals they set out to accomplish.

For those TED Talk aficionados who still want to get in some lecture time, there's hope: according to the TED Talks site, any number of streaming services, like Hulu, iTunes and YouTube, can allow users to view segments online, and apps for devices like iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and platforms compatible with Google Play, Amazon and iOS are also compatible for accessing and streaming each season. So, in the end, the fact that the series is being ousted from its place on the Netflix roster shouldn't that be that big of a deal — that is, unless the only streaming service you use is Netflix.

Then again, if you have an extra $6,000 to $8,500 to blow, you can always go see one of the talks in person.
