LG unveiled its new flagship smartphone, the LG G5, at the recently concluded 2016 Mobile World Congress.

The smartphone features a 5.3-inch display, an all-metal body, a 2,800 mAh removable battery and always-on display, with the device powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and 4 GB of RAM. The LG G5 will also have modules, known as LG Friends, which add extra capabilities to the smartphone.

The two LG Friends announced at the event are the CAM Plus, which is a special camera accessory that provides an enlarged camera grip and additional battery power, and Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play, which transforms the device into a Hi-Fi audio player.

The global launch of the smartphone is in April, though there are some differences in certain regions regarding the device. In Latin America, for example, the LG G5 will instead be powered by the weaker Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 with only 3 GB of RAM. The decision to go with a weaker processor was due to feedback from network operators and the region's currency appreciation.

For India, the LG G5 is expected to be released in the second quarter, possibly after the global April launch.

"We hope to make this available to users in India very soon and are optimistic that consumers will love its revolutionary design and features," said LG India marketing head Amit Gujral regarding the LG G5.

Gujral also said that the company is very happy because of the positive response to the LG G5 since it was unveiled in the 2016 Mobile World Congress. A survey that was conducted in South Korea, which is LG's home country, revealed that the new flagship smartphone was the top preference of consumers.

No other information regarding the launch of the LG G5 in India was revealed, including whether the smartphone will be featuring the high-end specifications announced at the 2016 Mobile World Congress or if it will also be having inferior components similar to the Latin America version.

LG fans in India will for sure be hoping for the latter. More details regarding the arrival of the LG G5 in the country will emerge once the second quarter approaches.
