OnePlus 2, the latest flagship of its series, lately got updated to version 2.2.1 of OxygenOS, the Android-based specially crafted operating system.

The main attraction point of this update is the support that the OEM offers for RAW photography, which joins the usual bug fixes and general improvements. This is not to say that polishing former issues of OxygenOS is a bad thing, but the camera feature is quite important.

Those who love taking photos with their smartphones are aware that RAW photo support guarantees better photos. That is because when you snap images in RAW format, you record the full representation that is captured on the sensor. In comparison, when you shoot in .jpg mode, the handset compresses the photos, thus reducing their quality.

Should you plan to use professional (or specialized) photo-editing apps on your smartphone-captures, RAW should be your first choice. As the image is taken in true size and you will avoid the noise that comes packed with compression in smaller file formats.

The image targeted update is not the only good thing that comes from OxygenOS 2.2.1. Bugs that messed around with Bluetooth, Ultra SIM, image corruption and use of roaming got fixed. A GSM 3.0 update is also in store, alongside Romanian language support.

What is more, the latest OS variant takes care of a few notorious security vulnerabilities.

Another notable addition to the camera of the OnePlus 2 is the manual mode for its camera. The bundling of RAW photography support and manual mode is set to appeal to the increasing number of phone photography aficionados.

The former important update of the Oxygen OS reached users over-the-air in December 2015.

The second-generation flagship killer from OnePlus aims to detach itself from the pack via such features, but some users hoped to see Android 6.0 Marshmallow land on the device. OnePlus would have appealed to a much larger section of its customers by upgrading its handset to Marshmallow, but this is not the case just yet.

Time is not lost, however, as the OEM promised to deliver Android 6.0 to OnePlus 2 owners during the first quarter of 2016. Q1 ends in 27 days, so it shouldn't be too long now.

Until then, how enthusiastic does the RAW photo capability of OnePlus 2 make you feel? Let us know in the comment section below.
