Rumors claimed that Windows 10 Mobile will finally see a rollout by Microsoft within the month to more Windows-powered devices in addition to the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. The launch of the update was said to possibly come as early as March 17, and it turned out to be one of the occasions when the rumor mill churned out truthful information.

Through a blog post on the official Windows website, Microsoft announced that it has started to launch Windows 10 Mobile to certain Windows Phone 8.1 devices.

Namely, the devices that can upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile are the following:

    • Lumia 1520
    • Lumia 930
    • Lumia 640
    • Lumia 640XL
    • Lumia 730
    • Lumia 735
    • Lumia 830
    • Lumia 532
    • Lumia 535
    • Lumia 540
    • Lumia 635 1 GB
    • Lumia 636 1 GB
    • Lumia 638 1 GB
    • Lumia 430
    • Lumia 435
    • BLU Win HD w510u
    • BLU Win HD LTE x150q
    • MCJ Madosma Q501

Microsoft said the list does not include certain devices that are currently running Windows 10 Mobile through the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Program. This is because many older devices are not able to successfully support Windows 10 Mobile for a good user experience.

The availability of the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, in addition, will vary depending on the device and the user's country and service provider, among other factors. As such, Windows Phone 8.1 device users are requested to first download the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor app on the Windows Store to determine if the upgrade has been made available to their devices.

If the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade is available, the same app will be the one to install it, and users will only have to follow the instructions that the app will display. A download size of about 1.4 GB or higher should be expected, so a stable and fast Wi-Fi connection is highly recommended for the operation.

The process is also detailed in a video that Microsoft released, showing how easy it is to upgrade from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile.
