The Samsung SM-500 has made an appearance on GFXBench, revealing the smartphone's specs. The handset is believed to be part of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy A series.

Samsung recently launched its Galaxy Alpha smartphone, which features an iPhone 5/5s-inspired design, complete with chamfered edges surrounding its solid metal frame. The new design gives the handset a more premium feel in the hand and is Samsung's first smartphone to ditch the company's love of using an all-plastic build.

We recently reported that Samsung is believed to be working on a new Galaxy A series that will consist of three smartphones -- SM-A300, SM-A500, AND SM-A700. The handsets will reportedly use the same metal-framed design of the Galaxy Alpha when the handsets are officially announced in the coming weeks.

The Samsung SM-A500 has just made an appearance on GFXBench, which gives us a run down of the smartphone's specs. According to the site, the Samsung SM-A500 will feature a 4.8-inch 1280 x 720 display with at least 5-finger gesture support. It will be powered by a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, Adreno 306 GPU (graphics processing unit), and 2 GB of RAM to keep things running smoothly. Its camera capabilities are listed as having a 12-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, face detection and the ability to record Full HD 1080p video, and 4.7-megapixel front-facing camera, although recent reports have claimed the device would have a 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera, which is believed to be used in the upcoming Galaxy Note 4.

The smartphone is running Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box and includes 8 GB of internal storage. Just like the Galaxy Alpha, the Galaxy A series is expected to not include a microSD expansion slot.

Samsung is widely expected to launch the Galaxy A series as part of its latest assault on Apple's upcoming iPhone 6. Most reports claim the company plans on launching the Galaxy A series shortly after Apple begins selling its 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in late September. We'll keep you updated on any new information regarding the Galaxy A series as it becomes available.
