Germany-based Sennheiser that specializes in audio equipment announced its new headphone line dubbed Urbanite at the ongoing IFA 2014 in Berlin, Germany, which will throw the gauntlet to Beats.

Sennheiser took the wraps off the Urbanite headphone models on Thursday, Sept. 4, giving consumers a glimpse in to the two new on-ear Urbanite and over-ear Urbanite XL models.

The headphones, according to the company, are meant to bring an "intense club experience on the move."

"Sennheiser URBANITE headphones are for the generation of Millennials who know more and demand more. They love their tunes heavy and love to look good, but are smart consumers who won´t compromise on quality. They want bass but want it done right. The Sennheiser URBANITE is answering these demands," noted Tim Voelker, Director Sales & Marketing Consumer, Sennheiser Communications A/S.

Voelker also divulged that the company was gearing up for an "exciting" campaign to promote the headphones on social media. The marketing campaign entitled "Let your ears be loved" would kick off in autumn and would generate some buzz for the new Urbanite headphone models.

Both the Urbanite headphone models are not only durable, but also easily adjustable so that they fit perfectly on your head. The head band is made of anodized aluminum and there is sufficient padding along the band, as well as the ear area.

The "soft ear pads" are intended to make sure that the user is shielded from disturbances and outside noise. The bigger ear pads on the XL model ensure more comfort.

When compared to the Beats Solo2 by Dr Dre, the Urbanite line-up has a more crisper sound per reviewers. While the headphones are in the same price bracket, whether the Urbanite headphones will eat into Beats' market share, however, remains to be seen.

The on-ear Urbanite model has a foldable design and comes with an integrated microphone and remote control. This feature enables the user in receiving calls, as well as regulating the music on their mobile device. The stylish headphones are sturdy and have hinges made of stainless steel. The sliders are made of aluminum, ensuring that the headphones will last a while.

The on-ear Urbanite headphones will be available in five attractive hues: Sand, Nation, Plum, Black and Denim. They are priced at $199.95 before taxes.

The over-ear Urbanite XL headphones are also foldable and come with an integrated microphone and remote control. The over-ear Urbanite XL headphone will be available in Black, Olive, Nation, Sand and Denim. They are priced at $249.95.
