Dunkin' Donuts has introduced a brand new version of its mobile app including new features such as on the go ordering and favorites, along with advanced imagery. To celebrate, the company is also offering a promotion for new members giving them free points toward earning free beverages.

The coffee wars are heating up with Dunkin' Donuts firing the latest salvo toward main rival Starbucks by introducing a new version of its Dunkin' Donuts mobile app. The app now allows on the go ordering, so customers can now choose their order in advance and send it to their chosen location where it will be ready for pickup upon their arrival. Customers can also choose a favorite order for even quicker on the go ordering.

While on the go ordering is enabled in the app, it is still not available in many areas. Dunkin' states that it expects to have most areas ready to go with the service by mid-year. Until then, even those locations, which are offering it, only offer menu items, which are available nationally. In addition, a credit or debit card may not be used, only the company's Dunkin' rewards card, which is registered to the app, may be used.

The app also features enhanced imagery and a brand new layout, and weighs in at just over 40 MB, about twice the size of the previous version. The Dunkin' Donuts app has been downloaded over 16 million times since its 2012 introduction, and in order to encourage even more customers to participate, Dunkin' is offering a free points promotion for new members. Upon signup, they will receive 125 points toward the 200 required for a free beverage reward, and in addition each of their first two uses of the app with a registered card to make a Dunkin' Donuts purchase will automatically earn an additional 125 points. The offer is available through April 21 using promo code "STARS".

Note that current members who are simply upgrading to the new app are not eligible for this promotion. Be sure to download the "New Dunkin' Donuts" app on the Google Play or Apple App Store to get the new version, as opposed to updating your current Dunkin' app, which will not provide the brand new app. All information and rewards will automatically transfer from the old app to the new one however, upon sign in.
