Samsung has rolled out its latest update for Galaxy Note 5 in India in the form of a minor security patch for April.

The change-log indicates the update also comes with some stability and performance-related improvements, along with certain bug fixes.

The new Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating software weighs 19 MB and bumps up the firmware version in your phone to version N920GDDS2BPD2. The same version has already been rolled out in Nepal and Sri Lanka for Note 5, and has given no reason for complaints so far. Then it would be safe to assume that running this patch on your device should not introduce any kinks to its functionality.

All Galaxy Note 5 users in India should receive the update around the same time. It's always easier to update your device, no matter how minor, when the companies launch their patches, by simply following the screen prompts. Else, you'd have to download the patch later and update your phone manually.

However, If you think you've missed the Samsung prompt, try following these simple steps: Hit "Settings" under "Menu" and click on "About Device." Then tap on the "Software Update" button and if the new update version is displayed, hit the "Update Now" option. You may also try Samsung Smart Switch tool to update your device.

The 19 MB update is basically a baby compared with the March 1.27 GB one that was rolled out for all Indian Galaxy Note 5 users. The update provided new settings for Email, Theme and Icon/Widget as well as a mandatory added step of keying in an alternative lock method before adding fingerprints. It also bumped up battery life and introduced a new vibration pattern option, along with Google on Tap and advanced app permission.

Nonetheless, the April 2016 patch is also important in terms of the device's overall performance. Currently, this update is also available for Galaxy S6 Edge+.
