In what has quickly become a tradition for the franchise, Activision has now confirmed that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will include a zombies mode.

Activision confirmed the mode's inclusion with Polygon, saying that Infinite Warfare's zombies will be "an original cooperative Zombies mode that takes players on a wild ride through a new storyline with unique gameplay features and mechanics." The publisher is, so far, quiet on any additional details. Will it feature zombies in space? Technically, that already happened, but given Infinite Warfare's space theme, it seems like it's bound to happen again.

Zombies in Infinite Warfare will be the first time an Infinity Ward-developed Call of Duty will feature the mode. Infinity Ward's last entry, Call of Duty: Ghosts, featured a similar co-op mode called Extinction that had players teaming up to fight off an alien invasion. Prior to that, Infinity Ward focused on a side mode called Spec Ops, which was a set of difficult co-operative scenarios featured in the Modern Warfare subseries.

The arrival of zombies as a game type in Call of Duty originated with Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War. Since then, the mode has only continued to grow more popular, appearing in all three Black Ops games from Treyarch as well as Sledgehammer's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Advanced Warfare saw a more futuristic take on zombies by giving the undead strength-enhancing exosuits to wear. The mode came as paid DLC for the game, a move that angered more than a few fans.

Recently, the zombie modes have featured a number of Hollywood actors to help bring the undead action to life, with actors like Ron Perlman, Jeff Goldblum, John Malkovich and Michael Rooker all making appearances in the last few years (just to name a few).

Expect much the same in Infinite Warfare. You can check out the trailer for the latest entry in the franchise here, along with a brief glimpse of Modern Warfare Remastered.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is scheduled for release on Nov. 4, 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
