HTC is now tipped to launch its much rumored smartwatch next month, sometime during the week of June 6.

Keep in mind, however, that an HTC smartwatch has been rumored for a good while now, with various launch dates speculated at one point or another, yet nothing has materialized so far.

Last year, for instance, an HTC smartwatch allegedly codenamed "Halfbeak" was expected to arrive in September, which obviously never happened. More recently, news surfaced that the elusive HTC smartwatch would launch in April this year, but that didn't happen either.

That April timeframe came from famous tipster Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, who has a pretty good track record when it comes to outing unannounced product launches. After the April timeframe proved to be hit-and-miss, Blass is now back with a new timeline.

This time, the tipster claims that HTC has postponed the launch of its first smartwatch to June.

When it comes to what this purported HTC smartwatch will bring to the table, details are rather scarce. The gadget is rumored to sport a circular form factor and run Android Wear, but it remains unclear for now what other specs and features it will have. There's no word on pricing either, as pretty much everything is still shrouded in mystery at this point.

HTC lost some of its steam in recent years, but it just got back in the game with its hot new HTC 10 flagship smartphone. Considering the great hype surrounding the HTC 10, which is just starting to reach customers, June does indeed seem like a suitable timeframe to launch a companion device such as a smartwatch.

The wearable market continues to gain ground and more companies are joining the race, and it would make sense for HTC to want a piece of the pie. At the same time, HTC would have notable competition on the wearable device market, with notable rivals such as Apple, Samsung, LG, Motorola and others who already launched smartwatches and other smart wearable gadgets.

It remains to be seen just what will come of it, when or if HTC finally launches its elusive smartwatch. We'll keep you in the loop as soon as we learn more, but take everything with a grain of salt until a formal announcement.
