Seems like Google has embarked on a new voyage - the company is opening a series of pop-up shops this holiday season that will display its latest hardware products, but not Google Glass. The shops are being called Winter Wonderlabs.

Google plans to open these "Wonderlabs" in six cities viz., New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Paramus, NJ. The hardware products that will be up for the show off include the latest Nexus 7, Chromecast and the latest family of Chromebooks. Google Glass fans will probably have to wait longer till the barge that is being built in San Francisco opens to the public.

The other attractions of Wonderlabs include an area inside the store where visitors can experience virtual snowfall. Google's invite to visitors read "step into the giant Snow Globe to create amazing slow-motion videos that are yours to keep and share."

The Winter Wonderlabs could be Google's first step in the retailing business that may ultimately pose a threat to Apple retail stores, which do more than just sell products - they offer customer experience i.e. customers can not only buy, but also learn about Apple products from the store employees.

"The Winter Wonderlab is a fun and interactive way to experience all of Google's new gadgets in one place," Google said. Perhaps a hint that Google is keen on emulating Apple's success.
