The GoPro camera is so solidly constructed that it is able to stay intact while at sea for two months. This happened with one particular GoPro.

The moment it was retrieved, it was still in good condition to tell its adventures through the pictures captured underwater.

The feat of a GoPro camera to survive falling from weather balloons and airplanes from the sky is well-recorded. However, another tale of survival has been reported by an Australian man who got back his GoPro after it fell into the ocean, where it remained for two months.

Tale Of The Camera And The Ocean

With his wife and four kids, Ethan Dack of New South Wales had a family vacation in Point Vernon, a tiny peninsula located on the east cost of Queensland. When he and his aunt were kayaking, he was using his GoPro. He then dove into the water to record some turtles. However, the camera tied to his neck by a simple strap made from string slipped and fell into the ocean. Daily, for almost a week, Dack searched for his GoPro.

"I just accepted those memories had been lost forever," said Ethan. "All I could do was to replace some of them, so I took photos of the kids with my granddad."

The Returning GoPro

Two days prior to the day he was scheduled to leave Point Vernon, Dack's aunt discovered his camera on the beach. The lost GoPro surfaced after it went missing for two months. The amazing thing was all the images on the card were still intact. So, he lost no memories.

Ethan's aunt surprised him with it.

"She handed me this box and said 'I have a little present for you,'" he said.

Upon opening the box, his "mouth just fell open" as he was extremely surprised at what was inside.

Other GoPro Survival Stories

When one looks at the tech specs of GoPro, no depth rating is warranted. However, the camera has already had an array of survival stories that speaks volumes about its durability. For instance, a camera was found intact after it fell off a skydiver's helmet minus a case. Another person reported that a camera lost underwater for two years still contained an intact video when it was found — though the GoPro didn't work anymore.

Waterproof Casing Of GoPro

The manufacturer of GoPro does not give any time limit for the submersion of the cam underwater. However, the GoPro is said to be waterproof and is rated to survive a 197-foot-deep dive.

It could probably last at least two months underwater — but that's something the company probably wouldn't recommend.
