Roadhog was once an ordinary man, but conflict changed him, turning him into a ruthless killer with a taste for wanton destruction and cruelty. He says he's a one-man apocalypse and he's spot on.

His Story

Back in the day, Roadhog was known as Mako Rutledge. He lost his home in the Great Outback when government officials gave the Australian omnium and the areas around it as gifts to the omnics after the Omnic Crisis. This was done in the hopes of establishing long-term peace, but displaced residents did not take this sitting down, turning to violent rebellion to make their frustrations known.

The Australian Liberation Front was formed as a result, the members of which launched an attack on the omnium and the robot population in an effort to reclaim their land. Events escalated until the omnium's fusion core was sabotaged, leading to an explosion that not only wiped out the facility, but also turned the region radioactive and littered with wreckage for miles.

As the Outback was turned into an apocalyptic wasteland, so did Mako. Bit by bit, his humanity was lost, paving the way for the birth of Roadhog. He is now out in the world working as a bodyguard for Junkrat.

His Abilities

Scrap Gun - A short-range blast of shrapnel is fired with every shot. Alternatively, a shrapnel ball is launched, which detonates farther away and scatters metal fragments at the point of impact.

Take a Breather - For a brief period of time, a chunk of Roadhog's health is restored.

Chain Hook - Roadhog yanks targets toward him, inflicting damage afterward with his Scrap Gun at close range.

Whole Hog - For a limited amount of time, Roadhog can shoot a stream of shrapnel that damages and knocks back enemies.

Heroes He Is Weak Against

Mei - She can use Cryo-freeze to encase herself in ice, avoiding the brunt of the damage Roadhog can dish out.

Reaper - Roadhog is a large target and Reaper can go Christmas on him with his Hellfire Shotguns. In wraith form, he can also easily escape blasts from Roadhog.

Heroes He Is Strong Against

Soldier: 76 - He has real offensive power, but Roadhog's massive health pool makes his attacks seem meaningless. Roadhog can also reel in Soldier: 76 with his Chain Hook and deal damage of his own.

Tracer - She can use Recall to escape Roadhog's Chain Hook but the cool down period afterward puts Tracer in a vulnerable spot against his Scrap Gun.

Symmetra - Roadhog doesn't have to pay too much attention to her traps because of his massive health pool and when he starts shooting, he can take out Symmetra's Sentry Turrets without trouble. She can dole out damage at close range, but she won't hurt Roadhog enough to take him out before he kills her with two or three blasts from his Scrap Gun.

Tips

1. Roadhog has a huge health bar and that makes him a prime target for enemies looking to fill their Ultimate meters quickly. Still, use that massive health pool to your advantage by being up in the faces of enemies, going head-to-head with anyone who dares to face him at close range.

2. Be mindful of who's around you when you use Roadhog's Chain Hook. He can't move nor attack in those couple of seconds, making him an easy target for anyone with impeccable timing.

3. At the same time, be mindful of who you're hooking. You will not be doing your team any favors by bringing in close a self-destructing D.Va, for instance.

4. Chain Hook also stuns enemies. The closer they are when hooked, the less likely they are to be out of it and ready to attack by the time they get close to Roadhog.

5. Whole Hog, Roadhog's Ultimate, is both annoying and powerful. Not only will it deal a lot of damage, but it can also push enemies out of position, disturbing their plans.
