Users of Google Maps will now have the option to embed the maps in websites.

Google Maps is one of the most popular mapping services and, according to a report released by GlobalWebIndex, Google Maps is the most used smartphone app. The report also indicates that more than 54 percent smartphone users globally accessed Google Maps in August 2013.

It hasn't been long since Google launched the new version of its online mapping service. The company also announced a new look, more personalized maps and a range of other features for its latest Google Maps version. However, market observers said that the company also left out certain important aspects in the mapping service, including easy access to Street View and the ability to embed a map.

Even though earlier in November this year the company introduced Pegman guide through Street View, it left out the option to embed maps at that time. But on Tuesday, November 26, Google announced that users will now have the option to embed maps on websites.

Google has also announced that the embedded maps will be customized to specific users.

"Like the new Google Maps, embedded maps are now built for you. Your users can sign in to these maps to see relevant content, like their saved places from Google Maps. Conversely, they can also save a location from your embedded map for viewing on Google Maps for desktop or mobile," per the Google Geo Developers Blog.

Embedded versions of Google Maps will work similar to a regular Google Maps website. However, the embedded map will not feature the advanced 3D view that is available on regular Google Maps. Google said users are actually limited to a top-down satellite view and the regular maps view only.

Google also teased users that the new ads experience will be available in embedded maps in the coming weeks; however, the company did not confirm an exact release date.
