The open beta of Battlefield 1 is about to kick off in a few weeks' time, and it's safe to assume that fans everywhere are counting the clock.

Coming straight from the horse's mouth, Electronic Arts announced the big news via the official website.

"It's almost time — the Battlefield 1 Open Beta begins on Aug. 31 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Origin for PC and Battlefield Insider members get in early," the company says.

To get in on the action, EA advises interested gamers to sign up at the Battlefield beta page linked above before Aug. 21 to receive email instructions on when and how to play the game.

As the developer says, those who are part of the Battlefield Insider program will get access early, but it's still unclear just how much of a head start they'll receive. However, according to GameSpot, they might get a first crack at things three days ahead of the others.

It should also be pointed out that Insiders have to pick their preferred platform on the get-go. Otherwise, they'll have to say buh-bye to the early access code.

Going over what's in store, the open beta will have one map called the Sinai Desert, an area that's located in the east of El-Jifar. The map will let players test out a variety of gameplay, from dogfights in the sky to heated combats on the ground. It also features a weapon-filled Armored Train that can provide backup.

What's more, there will be two playable modes: Conquest and Rush. First up, Conquest supports up to 64 players who will battle it out to gain control of key objectives. Meanwhile, Rush accommodates up to 24 players, dividing them between an Attacking force and a Defending force that's tasked with protecting Telegraph Posts. On an interesting note, these two are the most popular modes of the franchise.

To boil things down, fans better sign up before Aug. 21 to participate in the open beta of Battlefield 1 on Aug. 31. However, EA has yet to make an announcement about when it'll end.

As for the official release date, the game is expected to roll out on Oct. 21 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
