In the battle of the skies, could nature take on technology? In a new video, a YouTube user tests this very scenario when a hawk attacks a drone.

YouTuber and software developer Christopher Schmidt was filming his quadcopter drone in flight when it suddenly came in contact with a hawk.

Schmidt purchased his Phantom FC40 quadcopter drone six month ago and routinely posted its flights on YouTube by recording on a GoPro Hero 3+ Black that is attached to the aircraft.

But in his new video filmed midair above Magazine Beach Park in Cambridge, Mass., nature takes its course as a hawk swoops in to attack the drone in a battle for airspace.

After filming the park and surrounding skyline, within a few seconds of the video, a red hawk soars over to the drone, dramatically landing on top with wings blowing against the wind.

The hawk wins the battle, after Schmidt decided to land the drone to avoid harming the hawk. The drone is seen falling to the ground upside-down in defeat. "The reason it dropped was entirely because my first reaction was to reduce throttle to reduce any risk to the hawk," Schmidt says.

Schmidt writes that the hawk seemed unscathed and was happy to retreat after defeating its prey. He adds that his drone is fine as well.
