American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy is probably just sitting back and smiling at all the speculation and theories as to what is planned this season that continue to come out. However, he isn't the only one.
Returning cast member Lady Gaga is also laughing in our faces — subliminally — in the latest promo for the new season.
Properly titled "Illusion," the new AHS season 6 promo strings together all of the various clips that have thus far teased what the theme for this year could possibly be. These include bug infestations, the monster baby season 1 tie-in from Murder House, crop circle aliens, Texas Chain Massacre, possessed dolls and the most believable theory yet, The Mist.
Also, while the past promos serve as the visual element, Lady Gaga's new single "Perfect Illusion" serves as the haunting soundtrack in this new video.
Just released on Thursday, it makes perfect sense that Lady Gaga's single, with its dramatic opera sounds and dance vibes, would be featured in the promo.
"It was a perfect illusion," Gaga sings, which is a nod to the fact that it has been the intention for these promos to purposefully misdirect viewers.
Featuring this song is one last nail in the coffin to remind us that we are still all clueless as to what this season, which has just been referred to as "?6," will be about.
However, there could be a clue found in the new image of a woman holding a mirror that has a reflection of a woman that resembles a witch trapped and trying to break through the glass. Could this season be about witchcraft again? Instead of going the full-on Coven route, maybe this season does tie back to the previous season, but instead, is set in the Puritan era in the Lost Colony, as previously theorized.
Or maybe this visual is just to further symbolize that nothing is what it seems.
In the bigger picture, maybe this entire promo is teasing the theme of mystery.
Then again, maybe everyone just keeps reading into these teasers way too much and this was just a brilliant marketing campaign to cross-promote.
Regardless, we do get Gaga in her glory, along with those creepy images, one more time.
