Apple will be deploying the iBeacon technology to its 254 stores in the United States, Friday, December 6. While GPS helps customers locate the nearest Apple Store, the iBeacon will help them inside the store by telling when one can upgrade a handset, recommend accessories, show product reviews, inform buyers of promos, or assist with a product for pickup.

Those who have the Apple Store app in their iOS 7 devices can make most of the iBeacon as long as they have allowed the company to track them and if they install in-Store notifications. The Apple device will automatically be in "in-store" mode once the owner enters an Apple store.

The iBeacon  is like all-seeing eyes of Apple while customers walk around inside the store. Depending on the location  of customers inside the store, Apple can push information that may be useful to them. Instead of using GPS, it makes use of Bluetooth to pinpoint your exact location.

According to the Associated Press, Apple has already installed 20 iBeacon transmitters in its store along Fifth Avenue, New York City and said though in-store location technology raises privacy concerns, many shoppers have shown willingness to be tracked, especially, if it helps them in making an informed buying decision.

However, the concept of iBeacon - based on proximity marketing technology - is not new. Several stores such as J.C. Penney and Macy's are already using the Shopkick app that informs users of available discounts.

Major League Baseball has also tested the indoor mapping technology in October at the Citi Field in NYC and decided that it will be using it by 2014. The technology of iBeacon through the "The Ballpark" app provides a better sporting experience for fans of the game. It can play certain videos when fans are next to particular landmarks,, send them coupons for souvenirs, and other special features.

Apple did not disclose when iBeacon will be used at Apple Stores outside the United States. but expect to see the technology soon in train stations, parks, museums, and most retail stores.
