The new Oasis map for Blizzard Entertainment's popular team-based first-person shooter Overwatch has now gone live on the game's Public Test Region.

The map was first announced during BlizzCon in early November. It is a Control map with a number of interesting elements and a gorgeous aesthetic presentation to boot.

Overwatch's Oasis Map

Reddit users over at the Overwatch subreddit first confirmed that the map has in fact gone live for those on the PTR. However, a flurry of players may be currently hogging Overwatch's servers, so accessing the game may prove slightly difficult.

The new map features an incessant stream of traffic that can harm players, which could make for some very interesting strategies during combat. For the first time ever on any Overwatch map, Oasis features a new jump pad, which catapults players aloft in a bird's-eye view of Oasis.

What Is Oasis

Aesthetically, the new map borrows a striking resemblance to Arabian Deserts, with sun-kissed sand-colored and steeple-like vertical protrusions flecked with instances of green, which in its entirety is a sight to behold.

Aside from its striking allure, Oasis is also a hub of human intelligence and invention, according to the patch notes.

"A monument to human ingenuity and invention, researchers and academics from around the region came together to found a city dedicated to scientific progress without restraints."

The Ministries, a gaggle of bright, secret-possessing geniuses govern Oasis and its population. These secrets are the reason why powerful organizations around the world take interest in Oasis. True to its description, Oasis indeed features a lecture hall, a museum-like building and even a research laboratory.

How To Get The Oasis Map

Those who have a copy of Overwatch for PC can immediately try out the new map. Players will need to download the PTR version of Overwatch via Blizzard's launcher, which is free for PC owners.

Blizzard Entertainment hasn't issued an official word as to when the new Oasis map will step out of the PTR and roll out across PlayStation and Xbox One players. The studio previously promised that the Oasis map will arrive on the PTR in December, but considering it has arrived earlier than the expected date, Blizzard may be trying to delight Overwatch fans by releasing new content ahead of schedule.

Overwatch is a multiplayer shooter title released back in May for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Despite its short stint so far, the game has already acquired generous acclaim for its strong online experience, its unique roster of playable heroes and its fleshed-out world, among a number of things.
