The PlayStation 4 is one of the gaming industry's most important consoles alongside the Xbox One, or the Wii U. Sony's flagship home console before the PS4 Pro packs a game library filled to the brim with high-profile AAA games, and there's plenty more to come next year.

This year is already about to head to a close, and it's been an amazing window for console game releases so far, headlined by Overwatch, Watch Dogs 2, and a number of others, with The Last Guardian being the most recent addition to the PlayStation 4's excellent library.

As 2016 ends, here is a detailed list of confirmed PS4 games slated to be released early next year.

Shadow Warrior 2

Shadow Warrior 2 is an indie first-person shooter that follows Lo Wang in his misadventures. The main character is now a reclusive mercenary skirting a punishingly corrupted world. He must wield a number of weapons merged with his magic and brio to stop demonic legions from destroying the world. Shadow Warrior 2 launches to PS4 early 2017.

Divide

Divide is an upcoming science fiction action-adventure title, described as being about an ordinary person who is pushed into extraordinary circumstances. Players control David, the recipient of a strange package from an organization called Vestige. Inside the package is an orb that sends David into a different augmented reality altogether. However, Vestige is so intent in getting back the orb that it abducted David's daughter to recover it. The game is a character-driven emotional assault that could be the next Journey in terms of a layered three-dimensional story. Divide launches Jan. 31, 2017.

Ys Origin

This Japanese action RPG was first launched for Windows back in 2006, with a PS4 port only arriving more than 10 years later. Set 700 years before the first title in the Ys series, Ys Origin's story puts the twin Goddesses and the enigmatic Black Pearl from Ys I and II into the foreground. Players unfortunately won't get to play as Adol Christin, the protagonist of the Ys series, but they may instead choose from two playable characters, each with a unique storyline and style of play. Ys Origin comes out Feb. 21, 2017 for the PS4.

Sniper Elite 4

Sniper Elite 4 is a forthcoming third-person tactical and stealth shooter scheduled for a Feb. 14 release for the PS4. Players assume the role of Karl Fairburne as he fights alongside brave men and women of the Italian Resistance to rid their country of fascist regime.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard sets a new course for Resident Evil, a hyper-popular survival horror video game series. Slated for release on January 2017, players take the role of Ethan, the protagonist, to fight mutant creatures using an arsenal of pistols, shotguns, and chainsaws. However, players should not expect the game to simply become a "gun fest," according to the game's developers.

Kingdom Hearts HD II.8

Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 is the much-anticipated remastered collection of the Kingdom Hearts series scheduled to be released on January 2017. It bundles together high-definition remasters of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD, Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage, and Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover.

Nioh

In Nioh, players assume William's shoes as he ambles across a war-torn Japan, wielding his blade know-how to survive the land of the samurai that's plagued by demons. These demons, known as Yokai, lie stealthily in shadows to assault victims unexpectedly. Nioh offers a complex and layered storyline set against the war period of Japan. It comes out Feb. 7, 2017.

NieR: Automata

From the makers of the Final Fantasy series comes NieR: Automata, the follow-up to 2010's NieR. The game meshes together strong elements of action and RPG gameplay styles, telling the story of 2B, 9S, and A2 — androids combating machine lifeforms to reclaim their world. It comes out in March 2017.
