Product renders for the Sony Xperia XA successor have now surfaced online. The new alleged model, with its moniker still undetermined, features a nearly bezel-less 5-inch screen on a unique rectangular shape, with the display seemingly tapering into the phone's metallic frame.

Cosmetics aside, hopefully Sony has learned from the Xperia XA and has beefed up the XA's successor with internals on par with competing mid-range smartphones, since the Xperia XA was treated with mediocre specs, which is a disappointment for an otherwise beautiful phone.

Xperia XA Successor

The renders come from SlashLeaks, a frequent source of leaked tidbits of info for unreleased tech, employing a trust system on its site for verification. As rumors and leaks go, take everything with a grain of salt, but if the veracity of the leaks is spot-on, the dimensions of the device will be 145 x 66.8 x 7.99 mm, which is almost similar to the current Xperia XA's.

USB-C Port On Xperia XA?

It seems that Sony is also seeping smartphone trends into its midrange offerings, with the appearance of a USB-C port on the alleged device, which if true makes it the third one from the company to come with such a port, after the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact. There's also a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the renders, but no sign of a fingerprint sensor, which is apt for a mid-range device.

Needless to say that everything from the rumor mill is subject to scrutiny, so it remains to be seen whether these renders actually end up being the final design of Xperia XA successor. As for the specs, nothing is available at present, but if Sony wants a chance to make up for the XA's lagging internals, then the device in question should not disappoint specs-wise.

Xperia XA Specs

The Xperia XA, the alleged device's predecessor, was released this year in June. It's a Mediatek Helio P10-powered 5-incher loaded with a Mali-T860MP2 GPU for graphics. It comes with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 200 GB via microSD. On the back is a 13-megapixel shooter able to record 1080p videos at 30fps, while on the front is an 8-megapixel shooter capable of doing the same.

Unlike the leaked renders, the Xperia XA comes with a microUSB port, although it does support Pump Express+ 2.0, Mediatek's proprietary fast charging technology.

The Xperia XA comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, although a forthcoming update should see it, along with other Sony smartphones, redress to Android's most recent operating system, Nougat.

Do you think these renders hold any weight in relation to the Xperia XA successor's final form? What specs do you want for the device? Feel free to sound off in the comments section below!
