'Super Mario Run' Unlockable Characters: Here's How To Play As Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Toad, And Toadette

Super Mario Run, released last week for the iOS, has been receiving mostly positive reviews because of its amazing design and replay value.

One of the aspects of the game that has players hooked to the mobile runner are the characters that they can unlock in Super Mario Run, namely Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Toad, and Toadette.

Here's a quick guide on how to unlock all the playable characters of Super Mario Run.

How To Play As Luigi

In Super Mario Run, Luigi has the special ability of being able to jump higher than any other character, which can be seen when touching and holding the screen.

To unlock Luigi, players will need to purchase Luigi's House in the Kingdom Builder mode. To build the house, players will have to accumulate 150 Green Toads and 150 Purple Toads in the Toad Rally mode.

In Toad Rally, players challenge the "ghost" versions of other players as they clear different levels of Super Mario Run. The mode functions similarly to Time Attack modes of past Super Mario games and titles from other franchises.

To collect Toads in the color that you want, make sure that the opponent that you are challenging has the appropriately colored Toads in the image that is displayed next to their name.

How To Play As Princess Peach

The special ability of Princess Peach is that she can glide in the air for a short time by having the player touch and hold the screen.

Compared to unlocking Luigi, gaining access to Princess Peach is relatively easy. Players will only have to complete all the 24 levels of the World Tour mode, an achievement that most gamers who purchased Super Mario Run will look to do anyway.

How To Play As Yoshi

Yoshi is capable of fluttering in the air for short periods of time, which can also be done by touching and holding the screen.

Among the five unlockable characters in Super Mario Run, Yoshi is among the easiest one to unlock. Similar to unlocking Luigi, players will need to accumulate Toads in Toad Rally to purchase Yoshi's House. Players will only need 30 Red Toads and 30 Yellow Toads though, which are much lower numbers compared to the ones needed for Luigi.

How To Play As Toad

Toad is the fastest character in the game and starts out big, with the trade-off being that he can only take one hit.

If Yoshi was easy to unlock, Toad would be the easiest one. To gain access to Toad, all that players will have to do is to sign up for a My Nintendo account or link it if they already have one. Upon doing so, players can then tap on the My Nintendo icon in upper right corner of the Kingdom Builder mode and redeem Toad among the list of items.

How To Play As Toadette

Toadette has the same special ability as Toad, but is the most difficult character to unlock in Super Mario Run.

Players looking to unlock Toadette will follow the same process as unlocking Luigi and Yoshi, as Toads from Toad Rally will be required. Gaining access to Toadette will require 200 Red Toads, 200 Green Toads, 200 Yellow Toads, 200 Purple Toads and 200 Blue Toads though, as that is the purchase requirement for Toadette's House.
