If there's anything that can be said about 2016, it did not lack in excitement when it comes to the gaming community. From new games to sequels this enthusiastic community was blessed with so much to be excited for.

As a throwback to the year, we review the 10 best video game trailers that blew us away.

The Last of Us Part II

After much clamor for a sequel to 2013's hit game The Last of Us, game developer Naughty dog finally released the highly anticipated trailer. Taking place five years after the events in the original game, The Last of Us Part II (unofficial title) will follow another beloved character, Ellie.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Naughty Dog is on a roll because yet another one of their games created noise this year. A DLC for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Uncharted: the Lost Legacy took many fans by surprise when a seemingly generic trailer for a video game revealed two of the characters from the popular game series.

Death Stranding

Created by Hideo Kojima, famous game developer, the Death Stranding trailer was revealed during the E3 2016. While the trailer did spark some bewilderment as to the nature of the game, it still garnered a lot of attention and excitement and not just because of the familiar face of The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The new trailer of the Nintendo classic promises the accessibility of literally everything that the player's eyes can see. While delving deeper into the world of Link, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild also showcases some of the beloved character's new skills. With beautiful music to go with incredible graphics, the trailer truly gives gamers something exciting to look forward to especially after being delayed in its release.

God of War

The trailer for God of War definitely did not disappoint. While other studios teased and simplified their trailers, the God of War trailer truly showcased incredible surprises and content that was enough to have its fans extremely excited for its release.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

It is not surprising that the gang of South Park gifts the world with what is considered the funniest game trailer of the year. With a new story and their classic humor and pop culture swipes, this game is expected to entertain gamers of all ages once it hits the shelves. After all, the title speaks for itself about the kind of game players can expect to play.

Insomniac's Spiderman

While past Spiderman games did not seem to garner the amount of noise that developers would have hoped for, Insomniac's Spiderman game seems to offer something that gamers will like. This is the first Spider-man game that allows gamers to explore the interior of buildings, and this new game looks like it remains true to the very things that make Spider-man such a household name.

Final Fantasy XV Omen

Probably one of the most highly anticipated games of the year gave its fans a truly incredible treat when they released the trailer earlier this year. The game was announced back in 2006 as a spinoff named Final Fantasy Versus XIII. However, Square Enix gave its avid supporters ten years to get excited for it, which led to its evolution from a spinoff to a main line title game of the series. Upon its release, the special version of the game came with a movie called Kingsglaive and an anime called Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

The trailer for the anticipated 2017 game gives a preview of just how much deeper Mass Effect: Andromeda will go. Showcasing Clancy Brown's iconic voice, the trailer gives a look of how the game will go further into the story of the franchise and gave a sneak peek into new characters and aliens.

Battlefield 1 World Premiere

This massive game developed by EA and Dice did not disappoint in its trailer alone. Even if the game was already released last October, the trailer still continues to excite their fans. The amazing graphics alone helped players to visualize the brutal scenery of this game. The White Stripes' Seven Nation Army lent its power to the trailer, making it truly one of 2016's best video game trailers.
