If you followed Kate Walker's adventure until the end of the second game, then prepare to resume the journey in Syberia 3.

The third installment of this adventure game has been officially announced for an April 2017 release. Syberia 3 will come out on April 20 in Europe, while North America will get it on April 25. The game will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The news was announced by publisher Microids. The game was one of the titles revealed in E3 2016.

Kate Walker Continues Her Adventures

The game will resume the adventure of main heroine Kate. According to the official press release, the story will pick up where Syberia 2 ended.

Kate was found dying by the Youkol Tribe, a group of nomadic people roaming on their snow ostriches. Kate assimilated with the tribe, learning more about their culture and finding out about their common enemies. She decided to help the tribe escape them, going with them on their ancestral tradition of escorting their snow ostriches to their migration grounds.

Long Time In Development

The game development has been mired with hiccups. Developer Microids announced that the development began on April 1, 2009 with the goal of PC and PlayStation 3 release in June 2010 as a full-blown 3D game.

However, negotiations with Benoit Sokal and the takeover by Anuman Interactive went underway, causing the game to miss its original release date. Sokal is a comic book artist who designed and created the Syberia series. Anuman is a French video game publisher that acquired Microids.

On April 17, 2010, Microids released another press release explaining that the PS3 version might not come out because of negotiations with Sony.

In 2011, Sokal confessed that the project met another setback due to lack of funding. But on Aug. 21, 2013, Microids announced that the project had resumed and gone full steam on its development. The first batch of artworks was shown in 2014.

Critically Acclaimed Series

Syberia follows the adventures of lawyer Walker as she ventures into the lands of Europe and Russia. This puzzle adventure game was first released in 2002 for PC to critical acclaims.

Critics praised the game's art style and semi-surrealistic script, owing to the talents of designer and creator Sokal. The gameplay was also praised for innovating on the mouse-driven, point-and-click genre that was popularized by earlier games like Myst.

The sequel Syberia 2 was released in 2004, following Kate's journey to Russian Siberia.
