LG has just made the week a lot merrier for its fans with the announcement of its latest phablet. The Korean electronics giant has just unveiled the LG Gx, a quad core Snapdragon 600 powered beast with a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display.

Along with the quad core snapdragon and the large display, the new LG Gx will also feature 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, a 3,140-mAh battery and a 13-megapixel snapper. If the specifications sound oddly familiar, this is because these are the same specifications found on LG's Optimus G Pro. Except for the different aesthetics and a few interface tweaks, these two phablets are quite similar.

Unlike the G Pro, the new Gx has LG's "knock on" feature, also found in the flagship G2. The "knock on" feature allows users to unlock the phone with two quick taps on the screen. In addition to this, the Gx can also interface with the company's latest line of Smart TVs. This feature allows users to use an LG Smart TV to display information about calls and text messages. Smart Day is another new feature that gives users easy access to information about their daily schedules, weather and other info on the phone's lock screen. Other UI features also include QRemote, U+ Navi, Smart Memo and Media Time. The Gx also features an LTE radio for blazing wireless Internet speeds.

Here are some of the phone's key features:

Size: 150.6x76.1x9.2 mm

Weight: 167g

Colors: Black and White

Network: LTE/HSPA/EV-DO/VoLTE (U+), 2.6GHz broadband LTE support

Processor: Snapdragon 600 Quad Core

Display: 5.5-inch IPS Full HD Display

Camera: 12MP with AF Rear Camera, 2.1MP Front Camera

Battery: 3,140 mAh

Storage: 32 GB Internal Storage, 2GB RAM

Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0 + HS / USB 2.0 HS / NFC

While the Gx will be initially available in Korea, no word has yet been given about the phablet's release in other areas. However, LG fans can expect an international release to follow soon. The competition in the phablet market is expected to get tougher this coming year due to the number of upcoming models lined up for release from rival phone manufacturers, but LG is ready.

However, if you expect LG Gx to take on Samsung's Galaxy Note 3, you'll be disappointed. Though Gx has been priced lower than Galaxy Note 3 in Korea, the LG device doesn't come with a stylus, has a slightly smaller display, less battery power, and slower processing speed.
