The world's first CyanogenMod phone, the Oppo N1, has received Google's nod and will officially launch on Christmas Eve.

CyanogenMod is an open source operating system distribution for smartphones and tablet computers based on the Android platform. It is developed as a free and open source software based on the official releases of Android with added original and third-party code.

Oppo has already released the N1 smartphone but a limited edition CyanogenMod version of the handset will be available from Tuesday, December 24 this year. The latest smartphone will also come with Google Play. According to a recent tweet posted by Oppo, the N1 it is the first CyanogenMod device to pass Google's compatibility test suite and also the first device to run Google app legitimately.

"The Oppo N1 device running CyanogenMod 10.2 has officially passed Google's CTS and CDD certification programs, which marks a major milestone for everyone in this project, not just those working on the N1 project itself. This has been something a long time in the making, ever since CM 4.0.4," per Oppo's announcement on Google Groups.

The Oppo N1 has a massive 5.9-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 377 pixels per inch (ppi) density. A quad-core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor powers the handset.

The smartphone comes in 16GB/32GB internal storage options and 2GB of RAM. The handset also includes 3610 mAh battery.

The Oppo N1 is equipped with a 13-megapixel swivel camera, which can move in 206 degrees, acting as a front as well as a rear-facing camera. The handset comes running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system, and may receive an update to the latest software version.

The CyanogenMod will have the same hardware specifications as the regular version of the handset apart from the software.

The regular versions of the Oppo N1 have a price tag of $599/$649 for the 16GB/32GB models of the handset. Just like the regular version, the CyanogenMod edition of the Oppo N1 will also be available from the company website.
