Chucklefish finally drops the Project Spellbound working title for its upcoming simulation game bound for PC and officially calls the new IP Witchbrook.

Most articles that covered its original debut describe it as a magical school sim, which seems appropriate given the developer's previous project. The game boasts 8-bit graphics that immediately appear nostalgic such as old-school role-playing games like The Legend of Zelda and others.

It is designed to be a single-player experience, however, the publisher's recent announcement regarding the multiplayer beta for Stardew Valley could mean otherwise later on. Eric Barone, the creator of its predecessor title, confirms that the feature is currently being tested by the company's Quality Assurance team.

Tweeting The Name

Finn Brice, CEO of Chucklefish, finally announced its official title on Twitter alongside a screenshot of the game's visuals. Just like the previous game that looks and plays familiar, the title is supposedly inspired by Harvest Moon, a popular farming simulation RPG that launched on multiple platforms.

As its name implies, the gameplay will most likely witches, wizards, magic, and others. It seems to show hints of influences from Harry Potter and other fantasy novels.

Learning Magic At School

Like the description mentioned above, Witchbrook requires players to attend and excel in magic school. Gamers can also participate in various other mini quests scattered throughout the story. Progression presumably depends on how well each task is performed, along with relationships made by the protagonist.

Similar to the game that inspired it, romance with other NPCs is possible and Chucklefish wants to make it dynamic. Therefore, it is presumed that players must continuously interact and probably go on dates to maintain the affection of their chosen NPC.

The game follows the same top-down view in Stardew Valley with hints of combat based on The Legend of Zelda. Instead of swords and other weapons, players must rely on magic to create damage against enemies. Unfortunately, video footage or screenshots of the other modes are not yet available at the time of this report.

Going Multi-Platform

For now, Chucklefish confirmed that Witchbrook is slated for a PC release only. However, if it proves popular, it is highly likely that it could be ported to other platforms like Stardew Valley.

Brice noted that it is still in its development stages and it means, an estimated release date will not be revealed anytime soon. Interested gamers can follow the creator's Twitter account for the latest update and information on Witchbrook.
