PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is now available on the PC, Xbox One, and iOS, so PlayStation 4 gamers are hoping that the battle royale shooter will be released soon to the console.

The PUBG on PS4 release date, however, is still very much unclear. It will be good for the game whenever that happens, though, especially as PUBG goes up against its rivals in the battle royale genre.

'PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' On PlayStation 4: Will It Ever Happen?

Brendan Greene, more popularly known as PlayerUnknown himself, remains open in launching PUBG on more platforms, he said in an interview with Trusted Reviews.

"In the future you never know where it might go," according to Greene, though he said that the development team is currently focused on the PC and Xbox One versions of the multiplayer shooter.

The PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds full release for the PC was rolled out in December 2017, but the Xbox One version is still in the console's Game Preview program and is lagging behind the PC version. For example, the second map, Miramar, is not expected to roll out to Xbox One players until May.

Greene's response, meanwhile, reveals that PUBG on PS4 certainly has a chance of happening, giving fresh hope to PlayStation 4 owners that they will get to play the game in the future. However, without a clear timeline and the need to focus on the PC and Xbox One versions first, Greene echoes recent comments made by PUBG Corp. CEO Chang Han Kim.

According to Kim, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on PlayStation 4 might take a while. This is because Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on the Xbox One allow PUBG to be rolled out despite being in unfinished states, allowing the development team to tweak the game before the official full release. The PlayStation 4 does not have a similar program, so PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds for the PS4 will have to be released in a finished state.

'PUBG' On PS4 Will Be Good For The Game

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds popularized battle royale matches, but Epic Games' Fortnite has taken over as the top game in the genre. Part of the success of Fortnite is its availability on more platforms compared to PUBG, including on the PlayStation 4.

The launch of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on the PlayStation 4 will help the game catch up to Fortnite, since the PS4 remains the top console in the video game market. PUBG on PS4 will also likely cut off any chance for success for other battle royale games.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds support will last for at least 20 years, Greene said. That will be a huge bonus if it is true and might lure players from Fortnite to PUBG.
