Google Maps has been updated with three new icons to replace the navigation arrow that serves no other purpose than cosmetic reasons.

Google Maps Car Icons Now Available

After selecting a destination in Google Maps, users are taken to a screen where a blue boring arrow shows which way to go. However, the latest update adds customization options, allowing users to change the arrow if they ever feel that they need a little pick-me-up while driving.

"Depending on your mood, you can swap out the classic blue navigation arrow for a new icon-a stylish sedan, a timeless pickup truck, or a speedy SUV," said Aditya Dhanrajani, product manager of Google Maps. "Hit the road with a brand new car, so you can have that new car feeling without the down payment."

To change the icon in Google Maps, iOS users can get started by tapping the navigation arrow when in driving navigation mode. They can then choose between a red sedan, a green truck, or a yellow SUV icon. Tapping the icon allows users to choose again.

The new Google Maps feature is not exactly exciting in a way that it is helpful, but it does spice things up a bit in an otherwise boring app. The car even moves up and down while in place, which looks comical yet entertaining.

The feature should already be live on the iOS as long as the user has installed the latest version of Google Maps. It is yet unknown if it is ever coming to Android.

What Else Is New In Google Maps

Google also recently announced new Google Maps features that will help users figure out what to eat, drink, or do around town. The features aim to end countless suggestions and debates on where to go with friends or family by redesigning the "Explore" tab and rating food venues based on the user's preferences.

Google Maps is also making it easier to coordinate with a group by letting users share a shortlist, to which everyone can contribute. They can then vote on the items on the list to come up with a decision.

The new "For you" tab brings users the latest happenings according to the user's taste. It can be a pop-up from a favorite chef or a new bakery in Paris.

According to Google, the new features are rolling out to Android and iOS users all over the world in the coming months.
