Ubisoft officially confirmed that the next Assassin's Creed game is Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, which will be set in ancient Greece.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, which was leaked by a keychain, coincides with rumors from earlier this year on when and where the action-adventure franchise was heading to next.

'Assassin's Creed' In Ancient Greece Confirmed

In March, there were rumors that the next Assassin's Creed game will take place in ancient Greece, following Assassin's Creed: Origins which was set in ancient Egypt. Those rumors followed earlier information that ancient Greece was supposed to be part of Assassin's Creed: Origins, but was later moved out of the game and into the next entry in the series.

The rumors for the next Assassin's Creed game heated up after French video game website Jeux Video Live uploaded a picture of a keychain with packaging that features the title of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. The keychain itself resembles an ancient Greek helmet.

It did not take long for Ubisoft to respond to the leak by confirming Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

What Do We Know About 'Assassin's Creed: Odyssey'?

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey will be released as a sequel to Assassin's Creed: Origins, and it will be an even more drastic departure from the norm of the franchise compared with its predecessor.

Assassin's Creed: Origins added RPG elements to the series, but Assassin's Creed: Odyssey will take one step further and introduce dialogue options for the first time in the franchise. Players will also be able to play as either a male or female main character, who will be new heroes and not Bayek and Aya from Assassin's Creed: Origins.

The earlier rumors stated that Assassin's Creed: Odyssey will launch in the fall of 2019, but according to new information, the game will be launched during the current fiscal year of Ubisoft, which ends on March 31, 2019. The likely Assassin's Creed: Odyssey release date will be this fall, a full year earlier from the previous rumors that will see the series return to its annual schedule.

Gamers who are excited for Assassin's Creed: Odyssey will not have to wait long to know more about the game. Ubisoft said that the game will be featured at the upcoming E3 2018, which will run from June 12 to June 14.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, however, will likely be sharing the spotlight in Ubisoft's E3 2018 booth with Beyond Good and Evil 2, the highly anticipated prequel to Beyond Good and Evil from 2003.
