Director James Wan is the producer for the terrifying new film, The Nun. The film is a spin-off film from Wan's earlier film, The Conjuring 2 and the fifth installment in The Conjuring series.

The Nun 2018

The trailer was released on June 13 that gives a sneak peek at the film that will follow the story of the demonic nun, Valak. Many fans will remember that Valak made its appearance in The Conjuring 2 as the film's main antagonist.

Throughout the film, the main character, Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) was haunted by visions of the nun and confronts the demonic spirit when it tries to possess a young girl in London.

Following this, Valak was also briefly seen in the film, Annabelle 2, in an old picture.

In the film, the events will take place before the Conjuring film and show a young priest named Father Burke (Demian Bichir) and a nun named Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) who venture off to a cloistered abbey in Romania where they investigate the death of a suicidal nun. Sister Irene is haunted by visions of the nun which prompts her to join the priest.

Once there, they uncover a horrifying secret that could threaten their lives.

Also starring in the film is Charlotte Hope as Sister Victoria, Ingrid Bisu as Sister Oana, and Bonnie Aarons as Valak/Demon Nun. The film was directed by Corin Hardy and the script was written by Gary Dauberman and Wan.

The Conjuring Universe

The Conjuring franchise began in 2013 with the release of the first Conjuring film. The film is based on true events and followed by paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, who have studied various haunted cases.

The Warrens wrote about their experiences which were the inspiration for films such as The Amityville Horror. Following The Conjuring, the film Annabelle was released in 2014, that was based on a demonic doll whose story was told by the Warrens. The Conjuring 2 was released in 2016 and Annabelle:Creation hit theaters in 2017. In July 2019, an untitled third Annabelle film will be released.

There will be a third Conjuring film but the release date has not been revealed as of yet. Wan did state that he hopes to create a sequel to The Nun film that will tie everything together with the Conjuring films and why the demonic nun was in Lorraine's visions.
