Microsoft revealed the free Xbox Games with Gold for August 2018, headlined by melee combat game For Honor for the Xbox One and horror shooter Dead Space 3 for the Xbox 360.
The August lineup offered to Xbox Live Gold subscribers may be one of the best in recent memory for Xbox One owners, especially as a pair of Xbox 360 games led the way for the July lineup.
Xbox Games With Gold August
In an official Xbox Wire post, Microsoft revealed that the free Xbox One games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers for August are For Honor and Forza Horizon 2.
For Honor is a multiplayer action fighting game that places three factions against one another: Knights, Vikings, and Samurai. It was launched to mixed reviews in February last year, with praise for its combat system but criticism against its single-player campaign and microtransactions.
The second free Xbox One game is the 10th Anniversary Edition of Forza Horizon 2, an open-world racing game released in 2014 that mixes arcade-style racing with realistic driving mechanics.
For Honor is available for download from Aug. 16 to Sept. 15, while Forza Horizon 2 will run for the whole month of August.
Meanwhile, the free Xbox 360 games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers are Dead Space 3 and Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.
In Dead Space 3, players reprise the role of Isaac Clarke, who is joined by a companion, Sgt. John Carver, for the first time. Alien dismemberment is one of the main themes for the horror shooter, which is also playable in online co-op mode.
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is a two-player co-op adventure where players will again try to save the Wasteland using a magic paintbrush.
Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to download Dead Space 3 from Aug. 1 to Aug. 15, and Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two from Aug. 16 to Aug. 31. Both titles will also be playable on the Xbox One through the console's backward compatibility feature.
Xbox Games With Gold July
Xbox Live Gold subscribers still have a few days to download the free Xbox Games with Gold for July, with Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown for the Xbox 360 and Assault Android Cactus for the Xbox One available until July 31. Death Squared for the Xbox One will be available until Aug. 15.
Xbox gamers who are not yet subscribed to Xbox Live Gold may take advantage of a current sale, which is offering the 12-month subscription with a $20 discount for $39.99 and the 3-month subscription with a $15 discount for $9.99.
