Though up against some steep competition, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been named by Fandango as the most anticipated film of 2015.

Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and a cast of new characters managed to claim the top spot over Iron Man, Captain America and the rest of the superhero team to be seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The results are perhaps not all that surprising. After all, the return of Star Wars after a 10 year hiatus is kind of a big deal, with the film's teaser trailer being viewed more than 15 million times. The Avengers will just have to settle for second place.

What is surprising are some of the films that make up the rest of the list. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, the grand finale of the Hunger Games saga, takes the spot for the third most anticipated movie, following in the footsteps of Mockingjay - Part One, which proved to be the most anticipated movie going into 2014.

At number four is the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. It's the only film on the list that isn't your typical blockbuster fare or a sequel of some sort, though it does help that the film is based on one of the most popular book series in recent years. Jurassic World takes the fifth and final spot in the top five most anticpated list.

It's important to note that just because a movie is on the most anticipated list doesn't necessarily indicate how well it will perform. Movies like this year's Guardians of the Galaxy failed to make the top five last year but scored at the box office. Fandango used 1,000 fans from their website for the poll to decide the most anticipated films, as well as the fan favorite actors and actresses for the coming year. Though Avengers didn't snag most anticipated film, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth claimed the top two spots for fan favorite actors, while Jennifer Lawrence took the number one spot for fan favorite actress, followed by Scarlet Johannson.
