For National Recovery Month, Google launched a micro-site that has resources to help the people recovering from addiction. One of the resources it provides is a Maps-based tool that can help locate assistance such as pharmacies and support groups.

Recover Together

Google just launched Recover Together, a micro-site that is dedicated to celebrating the 23 million Americans on the way to recovery, and helping the 20 million more who are struggling to seek for help. On the site, people can find significant resources and Google Maps-based in-depth resources that are useful for those who are recovering, seeking to recover, or are helping a loved one to recover.

For instance, the Google Maps-based tool on the site can help people in need to find the nearest pharmacy that has Naloxone, the opioid-overdose reversal drug that is available across the United States in over 20,000 locations even without prescription. The same tool can be used to search for local support groups, and if there are none, they also provided a link to a Facebook support group moderated by Voices Project, an organization that aims to inspire recovery and end addiction.

Recovery Movement

Apart from the tools to aid recovery, the website also has resources on how people can be more supportive of the recovery movement. For instance, simply replacing the words “addict” or ”junkie” with “a person with substance abuse disorder” can help move the conversation away from stigma and closer to healing.

“One method that may work for some, may not work as well for others; and these can evolve during their recovery journey,” the site notes. “Whether you’re a person in recovery, or have a friend or family member in recovery, your voice can help end addiction and inspire recovery.”

The site’s launch is even more significant this September since National Recovery Month is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
