Fans of Dante will get to relive the complete original trilogy of Devil May Cry on the Nintendo Switch. Capcom recently announced that Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition will hit the Nintendo eShop on February 20, 2020. With an easy to remember release date and a reasonable price tag of $19.99, fans of the series shouldn't miss the opportunity to play this game again, this time on Nintendo's hybrid console.

Flashing Back

Devil May Cry 3 first arrived on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, which was later ported to Microsoft Windows in 2006. DmC 3 coming to the Switch is already a trip down memory lane, just like how DmC 3 is also a prequel to the first two DmC games.

DmC 3 explores the dysfunctional relationship between protagonist Dante and his estranged twin sibling Vergil. In the game, Dante must stop Vergil from opening the gates of hell and unleashing chaos upon Earth.

Fans can once again enjoy the addictive hack and slash gameplay of DmC 3. They have to relearn the then-new combo mechanics of the game and master the game's combat systems once again.

Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition for the Nintendo Switch will also have all the extra features that the special edition brought into the game back when it first released. Players will have the chance to play as Vergil, and even get a chance to earn special costumes for both Dante and Vergil if they beat the game's survival mode, the "Bloody Tower."

Playing as Vergil

DmC 3 Special Edition introduced Vergil as a playable character for the first time. He returns as a playable character again in DmC 4 Special Edition. Dante and his brother would eventually reconcile at the end of the events of DmC 5.

However, things changed at the DmC: Devil May Cry reboot. With a new story and lore, Dante and Vergil remain twin brothers, but also Nephilim, or children born out of the union between an angel and a demon. Vergil remained as the game's ultimate antagonist, but he also worked alongside Dante for most of the game. In the end, Dante emerged victorious over his brother, leaving Vergil in disgrace.

The story doesn't end there for Vergil, as a DLC chapter called Downfall follows him at the aftermath of their climactic battle. In this extended story, players control Vergil as he fights to regain his life, eventually becoming the new Demon King after successfully gaining his power back.

Completing the Original Trilogy

The upcoming release of DmC 3 Special Edition to the Nintendo Switch will complete the original DmC trilogy on the PlayStation 2 in Nintendo's eShop. The first two titles were released earlier this year. There are no plans to bring DmC 3 to physical game stores, but a physical triple pack will be released, which will contain a physical copy of the first game, as well as digital download codes for DmC 2 and 3.

Meanwhile, DmC 3 Special Edition has been ported in various systems over the past one and a half decades. It's also available for the PC, with an HD collection including the game for the PS3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
