Big companies determined to attend MWC Barcelona despite coronavirus fears

Though some companies have decided to sit this one out (such as LG Electronics), others have chosen to confirm their presence at this year's MWC Barcelona event. Major Chinese company ZTE will open a booth at the event but canceled its press conference there.

Some companies that will definitely be attending are Honor, Vivo, Xiaomi, Motorola, Lenovo, and Qualcomm. To calm fears about possible coronavirus spread, GSMA will be providing medical support, initiate disinfection protocols, and advise those who will attend the event to cooperate with rules meant to safeguard health, such as avoiding shaking hands of fellow participants. However, there is some uncertainty as to how organizers will successfully prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which is usually conveyed airborne through coughing or sneezing. One precaution is the distribution of masks to participants of the trade event.

5G Mobile Phones to be Introduced?

The 5G mobile phone technology may be introduced in MWC Barcelona, even though 5G mobile phones are already in use by the public to an extent. Many cellphone retailers and manufacturers have already started offering 5G-ready mobile phones to the public slowly. Nevertheless, this will be a significant introduction of the technology to a community of professionals involved in mobile connectivity somehow. One company, ZTE, will be showcasing 5G technology during the event. 5G mobile devices are reputed to be faster and offer more dependable smartphone connectivity compared to previous 4G technology. However, older smartphones might not have the hardware required to accommodate 5G technology - hence, the public is encouraged to buy 5G-ready mobile phones.
