The company will add $2/hour in the United States

According to a blog post by Amazon, the company will now be investing $350 million globally to implement a new pay increase of $2 an hour in the United States, £2 an hour in the UK and €2 an hour in the EU. These are all applicable to workers who are in the stores, transportation operations, fulfillment centers and especially those who make deliveries.

Amazon's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations, Dave Clark, had said in the post that "Getting a priority item to your doorstep is vital as communities practice social-distancing, particularly for the elderly and others with underlying health issues. We are seeing a significant increase in demand, which means our labor needs are unprecedented for this time of year."

A staggering increase in online shoppers due to the coronavirus

As the company has seen a compelling increase in demand for the services, this move has been implemented to help their warehouse crew and delivery workers as the escalation in workload have taken its toll. This has also caused some of the most popular brands to declare scarcity and delays as well.

As some business have closed down, a new opportunity has risen

Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC and the World Health Organization have implemented restrictions and advised the public to stay indoors and avoid large groups. This has caused some businesses like restaurants, bars, and movie theaters to shut down in some states like New York and Ohio.

Fortunately, with Amazon looking for more than enough new workers, they are fully aware of how these employees have been impacted by the pandemic work-wise. They plan on bringing these people into heir warehouse, saying that the company wants to let the public know that they are welcome on their teams and they can still go back to their old employers after everything has simmered down.

Amazon has highlighted that their main and top priority, with all of their roles and sites, is health and safety as they have been consulting with health and medical experts and have been implementing precautionary measures as the days go by.

Amazon has also been reaching out and is helping communities all over the world. They have donated millions of items such as disposable gloves, protective masks, medical isolation suits and other medical supplies needed in this difficult time. Other preventive measures that have been enforced and carried out by Amazon in response to the novel coronavirus, includes the $25 million fund that has been set in motion to support and aid partners for warehouse workers.
