Fans of the American fantasy drama Game of Thrones can whoop in glee as the popular HBO show is getting ready for its silver screen debut this month.

On Jan. 23, the final two episodes of the fourth season will be screened on IMAX theaters in the United States. That's not all! This will be followed by an exclusive teaser of the first episode for season five.

Game of Thrones hitting the IMAX theaters in a digitally remastered format (to make it compatible) will be a first for any TV show. The television drama will be aired in nearly 150 IMAX theaters for a week from Jan. 23 to Jan. 29.

"The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format," said Pamela Levine, chief marketing officer at HBO. "We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event."

The two Game of Thrones episodes set to make their big screen debut are touted as the most cinematic ones. These include "The Watchers on the Wall," which has an epic battle sequence that has been compared to The Lord of the Rings films.

The second episode, "The Children," is the Emmy-nominated finale for season four and is acclaimed as one of the most ambitious in the series.

"We couldn't think of a series more fitting than Game of Thrones to be the first presented in IMAX," said Greg Foster, senior vice president for IMAX Corp.

With the episodes being screened at IMAX, fans of the TV show will be able to soak in the opulently produced series in a bigger format.

Game of Thrones season five is expected to return to HBO in April. So far, HBO has only teased short sneak peeks to promote the upcoming season.

However, much of the content in the teasers is from the older seasons. Some rumors suggest that a special preview episode of season 5 will air on HBO in February, but for now fans will have to contend with the two episodes and the trailer.

For ticketing details, check the IMAX website on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
