Just in case you didn't notice, a Youtube outage happened around 7:00 p.m. EST Thursday, May 14. Users of the giant video-sharing platform voiced out their rants on Twitter and said that all contents in different channels were lost for about 20 minutes. After almost half an hour, Youtube finally fixed the problem.

At around night time, Youtube was non-operational, and all videos on each phone and tablet did not appear. Twitter users immediately message Youtube for what happened since there was no explanation regarding the incident for a couple of minutes.  

Almost half an hour, Youtube finally fixed the problem saying, "the issue is now fixed." The outage lasted for about 20 minutes before Youtube finally found and fixed the problem.

It was not said on their official Twitter page on why an outage suddenly occured during this time. Although, they thanked all people that immediately reported about the issue.

According to DownDetector, the impact of the outage affected people streaming around the world. Countries include the United States and Canada, even in Europe, such as the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, as well as in Brazil, Australia, and even the Philippines.

As explained based on their chart, 61% have had difficulty watching videos; 37% have had problems with the website itself, and 1% have not been able to log in.

Why did it shut down?

As of date, it is now the second time since Youtube experienced an outage for the month of May. The last time that it happened was on May 9, wherein 83% of users had troubles in watching videos. 

Since no explanation has been made by Youtube regarding the recent outage, some reports said that this might be connected with the platform's overloaded usage. 

Youtube has been one of the most-used and watched video-sharing apps in the world, especially now that the pandemic caused lockdowns.
